The zombie cocktail was invented by Donn Beach in Los Angeles—a tiki drink so strong that drinkers at his Don the Beachcomber restaurant were limited to a maximum of two.

Ingredients

Makes 1 cocktail

¾ oz. 90-proof rum
1½ oz. golden rum, 86 proof
¾ oz. light rum, 86 proof
¾ oz. pineapple juice
¾ oz. papaya juice
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3 or 4 ice cubes
Pineapple spear
Maraschino cherry
1 tablespoon 151-proof rum
Superfine sugar
  1. Combine all ingredients except the pineapple stick, cherry, rum, and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Shake very thoroughly and strain into a highball glass. Garnish with pineapple stick and cherry. Carefully float the rum on top, and lightly sprinkle with a little sugar.

  • These are great. Made a large batch of these and put them in a punch fountain. Added dry ice to the fountain and Voila! instant creepy drink. Not to mention that a couple of these and you are the walking dead.

  • ok, enough booze for 3+ people, but I guess if you plan to just fall into your coffin when the glass is empty, so be it.
